Author Guidelines
[in]Transition publishes videographic criticism across all subfields and topics of film and media studies. We expect that any submission will generate and/or articulate significant new knowledge and understanding about its subject area, expressing that knowledge effectively, imaginatively, and rigorously through its audiovisual form.
[in]Transition does not have its own style guide. The journal accepts any appropriate scholarly style, as long as it is used consistently with in-text citations rather than notes in the written statement. However, if you require some direction as to which style to use, sample 'Author Guidelines' from the Open Library of Humanities Journal can be found here and used for formatting submissions.
Contributors should submit a word processing document (such as .docx, not a .pdf) which includes the following:
- article title
- author name and affiliation
- a 25–50 word abstract
- 3–6 keywords
- a 300–1000 word supporting statement that articulates the video's research aims and approach, as well as the ways in which those aims are achieved in the audiovisual form
- a brief biographical statement (no more than 150 words)
- a list of works cited
- links to video(s), with passwords if required
Citations can be included within the video itself and/or the written statement, in a consistent style of the author’s choosing. The written statement should include a list of works cited and use in-text citations; footnotes or endnotes are discouraged in the supporting statement because of the challenges it presents for formatting.
